Drink plenty of fluids. Get plenty of rest. Take Tylenol because it will bring down your fever. Make sure when you cough, you bring the mucus up (meaning don't swallow it).

If it's really flu, the suggestions already given are sound...except for going to the doctor. All that will do is reduce your checking account by the amount of your co-pay.
Viruses are NOT curable---they must run their course while you provide your body with symptom relief: rest and fluids and ibuprofen.
The "new" flu-remedies (TamiFlu is the only one that comes to mind although there's another that starts with an "R") are very expensive, and must be taken within the first 24 hours of symptom-onset, and even in the best case scenario, reduce the flu's duration by 24 hours maximum. Not worth it, IMO. You are just making a contribution to a pharmaceutical company, without much return on your investment.

I stay warm and drink warm tea w lemon or hot water with lemon and honey. Lots of liquid but not cold. The body needs to stay warm to heal. Chicken soup is good because they say there is something in chicken fat that heals. Any chicken soup will do as long as its not low-cal. If you get cold or chilled it will take longer to get better. And after you are well if you get chilled you can get sick again. Meds I take day-time theraflu and day-time Air-borne & Aleve. You should feel better in 2 days if you don't see a doctor or go to Med-Center.

Take OTC meds for temporary relief, eat nutritional meals, drink PLENTY of water and rest. In time, it'll pass. Let the body take it's course.
