well i had earlier posted a question saying i was terrified about a dental surgery that i had to go through...well....it wasnt that bad.
but anyway.....they told me they were going to numb my mouth after i was "put under" and they did. but the surgery was like almost a week ago now (5 days) and the left side of my mouth is still numb.
it's like from the middle of my bottom lip to the corner of my mouth on the left. it also feels like theres tons on pressure on my teeth in that area, and they are numb too.
i called the doctor and he said to "give it a couple days"
this numbness is really annoying me. it's making it hard to chew food and it makes me feel like i have a "fat lip"
is this normal for it to be numb this long after surgery?
is there a way to make the feeling come back or something i can do?
any help would be appreciated
thanks

It was a surgery to pull out my bottom 2 wisdom teeth (cause they were growing the wrong direction)
and from the time I noticed the numbness it has not "shrunk"
everytime i move my lip it makes it tingle really bad.

I had a tooth pulled once and this same thing happened to me. What it is, is when they gave you the shot to numb you, it got alittle too close to the nerve. And it's going to "sleep" alittle longer than normal. I had it for about 2 weeks really numb and then about another week half numb, then it slowly went away in the next few days. And yes it is a pain. You have to be very careful so you don't bite your cheek and tounge. And it drove me nuts too! But it will go away.

you had surgery that will have affected some nerves. You may have some nerve damage that takes time for it to heal. I had ankle sugery and some of my skin was still without feeling for a number of weeks after the cast was off. It came back after a while.

No, it's not normal but sometimes it takes quite awhile for the nerves to begin functioning again and it is progressive. In other words is the area of numbness shrinking?

dont know what procedure you had, but its possible that a major nerve was traumatized in the process. The "give it a couple days" advice is whistling in the dark, hoping the damage is temporary and the nerve will recover, which can happen, and hopefully will. If not, well there it is.
