Also what is the difference between the two?

First, you can only color hair with blond if the hair is already lighter than or light enough to accept the color and show a change.

The difference between bleach and color is that bleach opens up the hair cuticle and lifts color out, hence bleaching. Coloring hair is lifting the hair cuticle and depositing color into the hair shaft.

If you have dark hair and want to go blond it has to be done in 2 stages. First the bleach and then the color to tone the hair.

Hey!
Actually it is better to leave your hair natural, but if you really want to change the colour, here's how it done:

If you want to go blond, go to a professional hairdresser as blond is the strongest colour and the most delicate of all. Dyeing and bleaching go together...u cannot dye without bleaching.

The function of bleaching is to strip the hair from its natural colour or other dyes if you've already dyed it. It helps the dye to 'stick' to the hair i.e. bleach binds the dye to the hair. If you do not bleach you hair before dyeing it, the dye would just slip off after the first wash. The dye is just a colour... some people simply bleach the hair and leave it that way as bleaching turns the hair blond and to an orange tinge...however, there are may kinds of blond dyes so after bleaching, the hairdresser applies the blond dye of you choice.

Have fun and enjoy your new look :-)

I have done both. If your hair is darker then the blonde you want you're going to need to bleach it but unless you want it bleach blonde I recommend going to a professional (which I hardly ever recommend because I do all my own hair) because they can keep it under control and make sure it doesnt go to bright, fry your hair too bad, etc. Blonde dye over dark hair won't be effective at all. I don't know what color hair you have, so I can't tell you which exactly you should do.

To be honest, both are very harsh to the hair cuticles and shaft. You should consult with a professional hair stylist. Bleaching the hair from its natural state is the most harsh causing dry and brittle hair. Depending on the color of your natural hair, even dyeing it blond could cause the same.

If you get your hair bleached, get it done professionaly. Bleached is just really bright & it is used to even out hair (for some people.) I'd dye it blonde just bc it's more natural looking. :]

do not bleach your hair. use hair dye.

bleach kills your hair, i bleached mine about 3 years ago, and it still is dead, cant hold any color i put in it, no matter how many hot oil treatments i do, it doesnt help.

use hair dye. bleach dries it out and makes it all gummy and nasty.
