Probably Carpel Tunnel. This is caused by a repetitive motion to your arms, hands, fingers and wrist. It will ache behind your thumb as well as make your thumb and pinky numb. You can help with these sensations by wearing a wrist brace, which will keep the wrist in a strong position and prevent you from doing further nerve damage. Severe cases are corrected by a surgery that isn't always effective. It has a poor outcome. Do you do a repetitive activity? Some examples would be waitressing (carrying a tray and serving heavy plates), typing on the computer habitually as your job may permit, writing a ton, etc. There are many more scenarios that are possible, but as I stated, anything repetitive.

Another cause could be tendinitis. This can be helped as well as the Carpel Tunnel by wearing a wrist brace, and shifting all the pressure from one hand to the other. Also, try taking an anti-inflammatory medicine to keep the pain and swelling down. If you cant make either symptom go down with these suggestions, well then, you probably need to see a doctor. I'm so sorry you're not feeling well. This sounds like a "repetetive joint injury". It can be related to spending too much time online or doing any other activity that puts pressure on the wrist joint behind the thumb (like violin and viola practice or too much text messaging). You really need to go in and be seen, because you probably don't want to have to give up the activity that is causing the pain and you also don't want to create a very serious problem---for example it can herald the onset of carpal tunnel syndrome in some cases. There are ways of treating this sort of thing, if it's caught early, through physical therapy---but you need professional advice. If your regular doctor can't help, ask for a referral to a bone and joint specialist.

Before you consider surgery try working with the principles taught in The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.
I use a chiropractor and massage therapist.

Sounds like tendonitis....take an anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen...it should relieve the pan.

This may be carpel tunnel , you should have it checked out, or it could possible be a cycst.

maybe arthritis, do you crack your bones? i do all the time, and sometimes the pain gets pretty bad...

or you could have pulled a muscle, maybe go to the hospital and have them check it out!

i think it's arthritis.sometimes my hands hurt too,especially if its cold season.
