Jesus Christ tolerated the sufferings on the cross out of love for those people for whose sins he was suffering and also out of love of God the father on whose be half he was preaching the message.

He even prayed to the Lord to forgive those people who were torturing him because they did not know what they are doing.
He could have prayed to the Lord to stop them. But, he did not do.

The Lord also could have killed those people who were killing his body, but because of the prayer of Jesus for their forgiveness the Lord did not do anything.

He came to earth with the purpose of suffering humiliation and torture and death, he came here to make a godly payment for the sins of all humans. Satan was at his ear through all his suffering reminding him that he did have godly powers to end the suffering at any moment, to not make such a payment for such undeserving beings.

CS Lewis said that all the people saying Jesus was a great teacher or philosopher are wrong. Jesus was either exactly what he said he was. The son of God, God's good example, sent to show us the way of salvation and pay a godly price for our sins, or he was just another sociopath flim flam artist like David Karesh. Same goes for the Prophets.

I tend to agree, and I tend to believe in Jesus, although trying to understand exactly why he had to suffer humiliation and torture and die for our sins is a little like trying to understand string theory.

Of course, but that was not the plan. Get your brain around the idea that God is in control, His plan is not changing, and each and everything He did in the flesh was for a specific reason.
From His verbal lessons, to His examples in the way to disipline yourself, to His "death" on the Cross, and even while He was on the Cross, and during the 3 + day period while in the tomb, He went to those who had lived in the flesh before He was crucified, to give them the opportunity for salvation, as you read in Second Peter.
In fact, Peter tried to stop them from arresting Him, and cut off the ear of one of the officers;
Jesus healed the ear, and said "Satan, get thee behind me". I bet that particular soldier didn't want to crucify Him on that day!

Nobody is to interfere with the plan of God; if ya do, you will get run over. It will go ahead, as planned, on the timetable of God.

That is what Satan want to do.
If Jesus was not crucified to death, then there could be no remissions for Christians or for those who believe in Him.
He has the power but he dont have the pride.
Jesus knows Satan's trick.

Of couse he could have stopped it. Jesus could have called legions of angels to save him or just destroyed everyone around him. He did not come to save himself, he came to save us. He said, "No man can take my life except I lay it down."
God requires a blood sacrifice for sin. (He is God and can require what he will, so don't try to understand that. His ways are unsearchable!) Jesus came to be that sacrifice and fulfill the law of God. There was not fault in the laws of Moses, but men were not able to keep the law because they were sinful.
Jesus is without sin. John the Baptist recognized this when he saw Jesus approaching to be baptised of him. He said, "Behold, the Lamb of God who comes to take the sin out of the world."
You have to accept God's authority for him to be your father and the intercession of Christ to be justified by faith. Other than that there is no way to be reconciled with God the father.
Jesus said it himself, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No man comes unto the father except by me." I bless his holy name that he didn't get down off that cross! He allowed himself to take on our sins and be separated from God during his passion, just for us! Then when he had defeated sin and death he rose again on the third day just like he said he would. He reigns forever and ever and daily makes intersession for me. That is why he came. "Greater love hath no man that he would lay down his life for his friends." I'm glad Jesus is a friend of mine.
God bless you.

Jesus said " No man takes my life, I lay it down". He had the power not to die on the cross, but he chose to do it to save the lost.

Yes He had the power. What He did not have was the selfishness to deny His enemies the promise of eternal life.
