Get yourself a new vet ASAP. make sure they are giving him a cough suppressant along with the antibiotic treatments.
It can also make a puppy more comfortable if you have a humidifier running wherever he spends most of his time, probably close to his bed. And limit his exposure to any airborne irritants, like secondhand smoke.
I hope the puppy feels better soon.

Hi. Kennel Cough is certainly a possibility, but these symptoms can apply to a wide variety of respiratory illnesses. He should be seen by a vet. asap. Do not wait until your appointment in 9 days. Vets do not do ellective surgery on sick animals. FYI to all the readers out there. Kennel Cough can be easily vaccinated for as a puppy, and should be done on a yearly basis. Many breeders, and pet owners do not do this, and this is an easy fix to avoid a future issue. For those of you who think your dog cannot get this, think again. Any dog in a public area or around other dogs can get Kennel Cough.

Most reputable kennels require a kennel cough vaccination for all dogs because it is so contagious.
I'd seek the opinion of another vet. Maybe it is not kennel cough which should go away within a few weeks. This happened to my dog. He had a type of laryngitis from barking, but the kennel said it was kennel cough even though he was vaccinated.

It takes 3-4 weeks for kennel cough to run it's course. He will still have a cough for that length of time and possible off and on for a bit after.
Just a reminder make sure to continue the medications the vet gave you.Give them in the correct dosage and for the length of time you were told. This is particularly important when dealing with a puppy.

Do you have past experience with this vet? If you don't have 100% confidence in the vet, I would get to another one today. I presume you have gotten the pup a bordatella shot. If not, do that as soon as he is better.
Pup should be examined with chest x-ray.
The kennel cough can take a long time to go away. My dog had it for over a month and it very, very slowly improved. However, with the pup being so young I think the vet should take more aggressive action. Perhaps IV antibiotic to get the pup progressing more quickly.
Good luck to you and the baby!

Mild cases may improve without treatment. Conventional treatment of kennel cough often involves antibiotics which tend to relieve the animal's symptoms fairly quickly, but also have a general weakening effect on their immune system, which can cause further problems, especially in the long-term.
Vaccinations to prevent kennel cough are also often recommended. But research indicates that frequent vaccination or over-vaccination may unnecessarily stress a pet's immune system.

Try a different vet. The only way I know to rid is with a strong cough med. My puppy had it last summer. The first med didn't work. They gave us something else that was very expensive, but it worked.

I would recommend a xray, puppies with kennel cough are prone to aspiration pneumonia.
