It seems every 5th question on here EVERY DAY is "What is my dog?" and then a description & link to photos. Why the quest to know when they then will brag their mix is better? People, it is fine to have a mixed breed (if rescued from a shelter, etc), it is fine to have a purebred (if well-bred from a reputable breeder) - why the defensive controversy all the time on here???

That is a great question. I think it is a mixture of curiosity for some and for others it is because they did not bother to research before they bought or adopted the dog and they believed the lies they were told( believe it or not even the shelter people lie). But then when they try to find out what kind of temperament the dog will have they can not find answers. Then there is need to to defend their ignorance.

The reason there is so much controversy is because of mis-information and lies.

I really think it's more of a curiosity thing than anything. In the couple of mixed breeds I've had before, I've taken guesses and asked the vet what possible mixes my dog could be. Not so I could "brag" about what mix I had, but just so that I could have some idea from appearances. I think that people who flip out because someone wants people to take a guess at what breeds they might have in a mix are stupid. Nothing wrong with getting a few opinions, nor do I find any harm in it either... just curiosity, plain and simple.

With all due respect, why the heck do you care?? If you don't like it when people come on YA trying to get info as to what breeds might make up their mixed-breed dogs, then don't answer! Ignore those questions and move on. Simple. Problem solved.

Shadow's Melon is right. People who adopt mixed breed dogs are simply *curious* about what breeds might comprise their dogs... and there are some very good/useful reasons for that curiosity. It's completely normal. I prefer mixed-breeds (I *like* the uniqueness of my shelter mutts!), and I usually *do* try to figure out what breeds might comprise their mixes (most mutts *do* have a dominant breed or two that presents itself in their appearance, temperament and personality) -- but that certainly doesn't make me ignorant .

And it seems to ME that there are far more breed snobs on these boards who denigrate people who chose to adopt mutts, than there are people who claim that mutts are "better" than pure breeds. Just look at tyke/askdaPro/verminator's typically nasty/snarky/shallow answer above. She's the one who is suggesting that all mixed breeds are "POS" and/or "crap", and that owners of mutts are stupid. How ignorant, uptight, defensive and annoying is THAT??

I couldn't agree more!!!
My guess is,that according to statistics,50% of the population is of BELOW average intelligence!
*&* it must be at least 99.9999% are absymally IGNORANT & gullible enough to fall for the crooks' LIES about MUTT/MONGRELS being "healthier" or "smarter" or "cuter". People are SO sheep-like! Fad-Following-FOOLS!

It's also great to be able to BLAME the "breed" for the OWNERS lack of TRAINING & research & GUTS!
"Oh...."blanks" are like that. So *I'M* not blame for my dog's ill-mannered rotten, nasty temperament."

The vast majority of ANY/ALL dogs' problems are NOT breed -related!
ALL mutt/mongrels are subject to ALL dog health or training or grooming requirments.
Since NOTHING about mutt/mongrels is predictable,it's utterly USELESS to go around begging for a clue as to what sort of mutt it is.

If you don't mind a "grab-bag" un-known & un-KNOWABLE POS for a pet...that's fine.
If you want to KNOW in advance what a dog ***WILL**** look & act like,BUY FROM A REPUTABLE BREEDER!

the same reason why soccer mom's put "my student is an honors student" on their cars, and then the backlash from the other soccer moms whose bumper stickers say "my student beat up your honors student".

pride? jealousy? anger?

funny, those are 3 of the seven deadly sins right there.

point blank:
When someone doesn't think theirs is the best dog on the planet, they have the wrong dog.

It must be love.
