A food factory worker has been arrested on charges he sprinkled glass and other debris into Chinese vegetable dumplings. Albert Vidal Torres, of Ontario, pleaded not guilty Monday to federal charges of tampering with consumer products. The charges carry a maximum sentence of 40 years in federal prison. Prosecutors say Torres, 33, contaminated the wontons in 2003 during the manufacturing process at Golden Crown Foods in Industry. The company has since moved to Ontario. The dumplings were shipped to markets across the state. Golden Crown Foods discovered the contamination after customers complained about finding odd things in their wontons. In addition to glass, prosecutors believe Torres also contaminated the dumplings with seeds, pebbles and spit. Nobody was hurt, although the company was forced to recall and destroy nearly $23,000 worth of dumplings, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles.

Torres is named in a five-count indictment that also charges him with using a fraudulent green card and possessing a fake Social Security number.
Authorities arrested him Wednesday.
A federal judge has ordered him held without bail.
His attorney could not be reached for comment late Monday evening.

So he poisons food and now the company moves to Canada. I am so glad his work ethics forced him to move to the USA and go to work and do such a great job (sarcasm off)

OMG!!! That is sick! Isn't that considered acts of TERRORISM? I mean, his intent was to harm and scare people eating those foods and to bring down commerce. He should probably be turned into DHS along with ICE.

With all these people getting sick with E.coli and the stuff came directly from CALIFORNIA....I would bet that the majority is illegal aliens that contaminated that food too!

I often wonder at the comments of some of the posters on here. When a verifiable news article tells you of a problem, you say "oh like that's never happened before" I'm sure it has and I'm sure it will again .But that is no reason to support the action. What world do you live in ?
I live in the US, I eat food I buy at our super markets .I eat in restaurants.Don't you ?
If this was done on a higher scale ,such as poisoning our water or milk supply, how many people would have to die before you take it as a problem ? I am anti illegal alien but I would never support any plan to poison the Mexican food or water supply no matter what I believe in.That's just simply wrong. And inhuman.

Yes it could have been a legal citizen, but in this question it wasn't.I addressed the posters question. He was an illegal alien.I see very clearly.

I hope he gets the maximum sentence. He deserves it just for being callus and stupid.I am appalled by this and its implications .

I am so relieved to know that no legal resident would ever tamper with food. That has never happened. hehe *edit* Katsulover completely missed my point. The point is that all people are capable of criminal behavior. I was not minimizing the incident. Tunnel vision is a bad thing. People are sometimes so focused on a subject, like illegal immigration, that they seize every opportunity to validate their beliefs. In this case, the criminal doing this was an illegal immigrant. It could have just as easily been a native born US citizen.

I hope that your information help the pro illegals and pro illegal immigration politicians take a hard look on this matter. The problem is not the illegals itself, the problem is the pro illegals and our government that back these kind of people over the American. If we all stand together this atrocities wouldn't happen. It's a shame!!

Careful now, you said that he carried a "Fake" number. You know here on answers you will be called a racist.
I wonder then if he was illegal. Hmm. Maybe.
Just another person that we have to pay for lock up in our jails.

Yep - They p!$$ on them. Now you know what those stains on your Chiquita bananas are.
