I don't know because I rarely go to pubs these days. Did YOU know that pubs are closing at the rate of 45 per week? Obviously due to the breweries charging prices like you mention. When are the idiots going to get it? As to your cider, you're better off with that than with 3.8% bitter for the same price!

At the moment am I living in the French Alps so there are no pints, only quarter or half litres. Draught beer costs 2.50 euros for 1/4 litre. Don't know about cider. I went to an 'Irish' pub the other week and it was about 5 euros for a guiness which they poured from a can!

Here in southeastern US a good pint of draft Guinness goes for around $5, cider is usually around the same price. Import and specialty american brews usually go for $2-$5 per bottle. If you really don't care about quality, you can get american beers: coors, budwieser, michelobe, all nasty as hell, made from corn and rice , on draft for $7.50 per 60 ounce pitcher, or in 12 oz bottles for around $2
Unfortunatly in most bars/pubs here we don't have much selection on beer, 95% of the beer here is cheap american brews made with mostly rice and corn, awfull. I only know of one place in a fifteen mile radius that serves guinness on tap.

I live recently in Prague, Czech republic. Here the beer costs approx. $1,5 = 1EUR for 0,5 liter. There is no cider here. But the beer compensates it.
