My freind just moved to california and she's 6 months pregnant. She wants to apply for medi-cal but she has to have a california id( she's already applied for one but they said it might take 60 days for her to recieve it!) can she use the id reciept or what other documents can she use for a california id? Plus since she's staying with freinds she doesn't have a rental reciept or utility bills or a job will this cause a problem in her application? With lots of Thanks for your help!!!

birth certificate. for sure: passport, greencard, even a school ID is good enough. since she is pregnant and unemployed, she will DEFINATELY be eligible for medi-cal. They can't deny her. it's considered an emergency or something. The government is very helpful. well when you apply, the eligibility worker usually does the whole application (you just have to provide the legal documents ie. ID and mail in your application). if you go on the wedsite ( http://www.medi-cal.ca.gov/ ) or pick up an application somewhere, the packet is pretty self explanitory and has a list of things/documents she will need to turn in.

I suggest going on the website. Its very useful.

i was also 6 months pregnant when i moved to California from Florida.and i didn't need a California id to get medi-cal.all she need is a form of id and a social security number. she can also go to the dept of health clinics, they will give her emergency medi-cal,the same day,and they will help her apply for medi-cal too.i did all that, with a Florida id and drivers license.to this day,i still have medi-cal,and they never ask for my California id.so,i don't know why they told her that.

Yes, she can use the receipt as I.D. I dont think she needs any bills to apply for medi-cal. I think she only needs those when applying for money aid not medical aid. But, tell her to call her local office and they either have a recording or you can speak to someone who can help.

all she has to do is take her social security card and her recipt that she has applyd for a CA ID. about the rental thing have the people she is staying with write something out that she is living there, and also if she is paying any rent to them or not.
