Every winter for the last 3 years my cat loses his fur in the winter, I live in southern Ontario so it is cold during the winter. He doesn't lose all of his fur, just from the middle of his body back really thins out to the point where you can see skin through his normally thick black fur. It doesn't seem to bother him but his skin feels bumby and he looks terrible. I assume it has something to do with his skin drying out but I am not sure what you do for a cat with dry skin? Any suggestions?

Sounds like your kitty has dry skin... possibly even a feline eczema ... I seem to remember my cat doing this before he passed away... and I cant really be sure what I did as it was a long time ago. I would keep and eye on it and maybe even call up the vet to ask for some advise. if your cat seems to be licking it and biting it as if it is bothering him I would deffinately seek some proffessional medical advise. Good Luck

Could he be licking his fur off? Maybe it's only from there back because that's where he can get to with his tongue. Many things can cause a cat to itch so much to lick there fur almost off. Fleas is a prime reason. Also allergies. maybe a food or seasonal allergy. The cat may be in discomfort so you should see a vet.

Is he/she shedding? if so this is normal old fur falls out & new fur grows in. Or is the cat loosing a lot of fur & have bald spots? if so this could be due to an allergy, fleas, or a skin condition.
