sounds like you have his schedule off.....you need to get his eating and drinking schedule on track with your time that you are away. If he is doing this while you are at work stop feeding him before you go to work he is old enough to wait to eat until you get home from work. Just leave enough water to wet his whistle not drench himself. He also may have a sensitive stomach like my dog so it would be better for him to eat more when you are at home. . Rethink his eating schedule and you will cure the problem. I am sure. And don't listen to some of the others crates are not cruel...they are like a wild dogs den they are a dogs bedroom and they feel safe there and won't get hurt while we are gone all day.especially if they are a rowdy dog prone to get into trouble.

1st. The crate might be too big. The crate should only be big enough for the dog to stand and turn around. There should be no room for smelling.
2nd. The dog is being left in the crate longer than it should.
3rd. The dog should have plenty of time to do his/her business after it eats and drinks. He should be having fun outside and once he has had his/her play time and potty time then only when the dog can't be supervised and for a short amount of time should the dog be in a crate.
4th. There should be no food in the crate, ever.
5th. You should be cheering for the dog every time he/she goes potty in the designated spot. You might think you look like a fool but it works. The dog knows when he/she is being praised and they love it.
6th. You'd be surprised how quickly the dog will learn to go outside if you just take him/her for a walk on a daily basis.

How awful that you keep your dog in a CRATE! I've never heard of anything so cruel. I guess soiling his "crate", means there is a problem. Could be physical, could be emotional...take this poor thing to the vet and have a check up.

Well if I was locked in a crate and had to go to the bathroom guess that is where i would go too. since they are bread in crates from the time they are a baby and never learn any diffrent because no one takes the time to love them the way they should be then why should they know anything diffrent.

if he's crate trained, then he shouldn't be soiling his crate. maybe you forgot to train him on that part. i've kept my dog in a cage when he was still a puppy. you'd would know if he'd want to go because he'd be whimpering and sniffing around. you could then take him out of the cage to do his business. you couldn't just possibly just stand and watch, could you?
and how long are you planning to keep your dog in a crate, forever?have pity on the dog...

Make sure that his cage is small/tight. You want him to just fit in it, because that way he will not want to go to the bathroom in his crate and he will whine to go out.
