Whenever I try to sleep, my cat comes and bangs on the door with her paws until I let her in. Then, a few minutes later, she bangs on the door again wanting out. She keeps repeating this through the night, and I get no sleep! I'm pretty sure she just does that because she knows it makes me mad. What can I do to stop her?

I don't want to keep the door open, because my cats would go in my room and fight and tear my things up.

I have 2 cats that do the same thing. You either have to leave the door open or for a while, have a water squirt bottle handy. Leaving the door open, let them come in but immediately squirt them, and they will leave quickly. After a while, they will hopefully put 2 and 2 together (even though cats can't add)!
Cats were put on this earth to drive us crazy anyway, so you may just have to deal with it. Every cat has it's own personality and owning a cat comes with it's drawbacks along with the perks.
Cat-proof your room and leave the door open. >^..^<

One of my cats did that too, not so much anymore, but I think I finally made the right decision. Maybe it will work on your cat too. After the first time you let her in and then out ignor her. If she is in with you just act like you are asleep. If she comes to the door again wanting in after you let her out once. Just ignor her. Have you tried that? She will stop eventually, the cat has to get tired of this too.
She doestn't do it to make you mad. I'd say she probably doesn't like being confined to either inside or outside your room. Wants that option opened. Since she keeps you awake anyway going in and out, just make her know she can't have it both ways. (Try this when you don't have anywhere you have to go the next day and can sleep in if she continues doing this) You will have to confine her to another room or garage if you have one this will also make her think before she does it again. It worked for me and my cat. It can drive you nuts. I know from experience with my cat. I almost got rid of her, it was the garage I put her in that did the trick. She cried and banged on the door of garage nearly all night long. Stoped doing it finnally.. just was happpy she was in my room. Its been a few years now and she has never asked to be let out of my room since. if you don't get any other answers that solve your problem try this. Good luck, I know how annoying this is. I'm starting to get mad all over again! LOL.

She doesn't like the door being closed is what she is trying to tell you. It isn't to make you mad, it's that she wants to be close to you, but also doesn't want shut in wants to come and go as she pleases. It probably wouldn't hurt to leave the door open. If you find they tear things up or keep you up. Put them in another room for the night make sure they can get to the litter box.

How many cats to you have? You are indicating that one cat wants to come in. My Gracie "bangs" on the door about 3 times a week. Sometimes I just ignore her and she leaves...other times I really need her to curl up beside me, so I let her in. When I do let her in, I leave the door cracked a bit and she can then come and go as she needs to. If it's your other cats that are causing the mess, keep them locked up in a room of their own during the night. Your cat is NOT trying to make you mad. It just wants to know that you are near.

My cat does the same thing, I just started leaving the door cracked so he could come and go as he pleases. If you really don't want to deal with it, I suggest you ignore her till she goes away, trust me, cats have a really short attention span, she will get bored and go away.
