Sounds like you have the timing down. You are drinking them when you should, just don't drink too many shakes they can make you fat. I got fat once from drinking too many of them. Make sure they are low calorie, low carb, high protein shakes. This will minimize your chances of getting fat from them.

Depends. In theory, a protein shake shake should never replace a real meal. Ever. However in reality, who can afford to carry around 30 chicken breasts? Use it as a mean replacement. Get real food in you as a priority. Taking it post workout is perfect (as long as its within 40 min, otherwise u've missed it). Taking it with a meal is pointless. You are already eating, why add MORE protein? You can only handle so much. I take mine twice, one mid-morning and one post-workout. Try that. It will save you so much money man!

Protein shakes are like Starbucks coffee in a way. You drink them whenever you have money to waste. I recommend Long Island ice tea instead.

That would depend on how much protein you need. Most folks don't need nearly as much as they think they do. A previous answerer said something about a bunch of chicken breasts. There's plenty of protein in just one. Your body, as he said, can only use so much.

Here's one of the most well researched sites on the subject, that I've found:
