Everyone knows this is inevitable, especially after the past couple months; but how long do you think it will take for it to start?

There are a couple of scenarios...

- Israel takes the first hit at Iran, US comes in to help Israel against Iran
-Iran makes the first strike at Israel, US comes in to help Israel against Iran
-(This ones unlikely, but could happen) US makes first strike, Israel comes in to fight Iran

When do you think it will start? And what do you think will be the last straw that makes one of the countries launch the war off?

Who else will gegt involved in the War; on the Israeli-American side AND the Iranian side?

A free Iraq is Iran's worst nightmare. My bet is Iran will become increasingly involved in providing Iraqi militias with weapons, money, and personnel. Iran and Syria have kept Iraq destabilized long enough for civil war to break out. This is where the Bush administration messed up. By not sending in enough military troops to secure out lieing areas in Iraq allowing militias to seek help from outside and establishing a base of operations. This would vastly reduce the number of attacks within Baghdad.

If we secure these areas whilst strengthening the Iraqi government without the destraction of unsecure out lieing regions we could establish a free, secure , and independent Iraq.

If we end up in a war with Iran, it will only be because of their direct involvement in Iraq. If they attack Israel we will be able to blanket Tehran's governments infrastructure. All of their bases of operations suchs as their capitol, Ministry of Defense, and electrical grid would be destroyed.

They would eventually end up fearing their mostly pro-western society and peoples. A coupe could possibly insue which is the exact reason we are attempting to free Iraq in the first place. It would only work to our advantage if they were to attack Israel.

Israel cannot afford to make the first strike it would embolden the extremist and strengthen their propaganda machine.

You are correct though. Either by force or political pressure from outside the extremist Iranian regime must fall or change their practices. This is the reason we are in Iraq. To stop the river of monies flowing from Iran to terrorist organizations.

Entering Iraq first was the most logical way to incur the least American casualties and then institute political reform throughout the region.

If we succeed in Iraq military intervention in Iran may very well not be needed at all.

Not so long. Let's just think soon. So it's America VS Iraq VS Iran (probably) VS North Korea (probably). Right.. I find the scenarios kind of interesting. I will have to go with the first one. It sounds more right then the rest. The last straw would be when Iran is going to test it's weapons on Israel and then Israel fights Iran and the US comes in. I believe that at the Israeli-American side there would be Canada, France, the United Kingdom, Germany and Spain, at the Iranian side, i think they would have Palestine helping them, i don't know, just a guess.. I guess they don't want to help them anyways since they are doing bad stuff..

Have a nice day!

Most people think it is inevitable, because of all the propaganda being tossed around.

What you don't know is that Iranian President Amajinabad has a big mouth and almost zero power over Iranian foreign policy or the nuclear program! He has been attempting to manipulate Iranian public opinion because he is desperately trying to hold onto the little power he has.

George Bush has also been doing exactly the same thing! If you only watch Fox News or listen to right-wing talk radio, then you would think our invasion of Iran is planned for next week, because they will have nuclear weapons to give to Al Queda by next month.

Of course, that completely ignores a few facts:
1) The Iranians can't make bearings that are good enough for their uranium enrichment centifuges, so even if they build a bunch of centrifuges, they will get only a tiny output. It will be at least 10-20 years before they have enough enriched uranium to make one small bomb.
2) They don't have the technology to make a sophisticated bomb. It would be very large (IE. thousands of pounds) and would not have much power.
3) They are age-old enemies of the Sunni Al Queda organization! But even with the Shiite terrorists organizations, there is no way they would give their bomb away!

Well, war between Iran and The United States is not going to happen. They are evidently on opposite side of the conflict in Iraq, but that conflict is along the lines of a civil war. So far, Iraq's missiles have not been hitting American cities. There have been American casualties, but far more Iraqi citizens have died than foreign troops.

War with Iran is a different scenario. It would be a real war. Iran would strike targets in the United States. Depending on what they used, the United States might choose to respond with WMD's. Perhaps Iran or one of its alies would then respond in kind, and WW III would begin. With that in mind, pardon me any Iraqi readers, but I don't think the fighting in Iraq is worth the destruction of both American and Iranian population centers.

Iraq is a country on the brink of total collapse into civil war, but its total population is only 26 million which is divided against itself. Iran is an ancient and proud country with a population of 68 million which is willing to fight to the death in self preservation. Iran used to be a friend to the United States, and that is a better state of affairs than enmity.

There are enemies of both Iran and the United States who are promoting such a war, but neither your average American nor your average Iranian wants a war.

;-D No, war between the United States and Iran is not inevitable.

Doomsday scenario, when will it happen? within 3 - 8 years.

First of Amahdinejad is pure evil, he is the ultimate enemy, unlike all our past enemies, he has the army, credibility and his intelligence to back him up. Plus he knows how to play the media and people, his victim mentality, he NEVER EVER wears military garb a'la Castro and Hussein, because he is one of the "PEOPLE." Sure right now there is a minority voice that speaks against him, but WHEN attacked, that nation will stand as one. And since it is not a democracy, dissention will not be allowed like in the US.
All Iran will fight and will like the war, tough luck for those who speak out.

now to the question:
Simple, Israel will strike first, a pre-emptive strike on the Iranian nuclear sites (just like they did to Iraq many years before).. Of course the world will be upset at Israel.. The US will have to intervene, but Russia and China will stay our hand... many months of Talk and failed diplomacy.

No western nation, or the good guys can say anything about this, because in fact, Israel did attack first, even though its for the west's benefit. However we will feed them even more weapons and intelligence. But for the time being, Israel will have to fight alone.

An agreement will be struck, an act of war will be declared on the "Zionist State" however no arab nation will back Iran, who are Persian remember, Russia Will send weapons to Iran.

By this time we will be weakened and because our politicians don't really understand diplomacy (Thank you Pelosi for telling our enemy That the president will never get approval for a war with Iran, that oughta show our enemies how resolute we really are.)

Iran will almost certainly gain the upper hand because of its troops in Iraq, Palestinian territories and scattered amongst other nations will basically corral Israel.

Seeing this, Israel will be forced to use its Nuclear arsenal, at which point Iran will fire up its more potent, yet smaller arsenal.
Of course we will intervene on Israels behalf, Russia will join Iran.

Enter North Korea: They will launch a few missles at us, and some will hit, then of course our guys stationed in and South Korea will attack.

Enter China: A war is just what the doctor ordered for a nation about to enter its first depression, (its economic bubble will burst, a non-capitalist nation cannot sustain this increase it has seen without an eventual collapse) they will join Russia Iran and by this time smaller nations. China then will launch a few missles against Japan.

Enter Japan, Australia. As one, they may be able to hold off north korean and Chinese ballistic missles over the Pacific..... MAY be able to.

We will have to leave Afghanistan and Iraq to the british, because the war is taking its toll on our guys whi have been rotating ever since 2002.

At this time, African Islamic nations will engage Europe, with guerrila warfare and suicide bombings.

While the US is occupied over there and trying to stop any more missles fromreaching our western coast:

Enter The communist south American bloc: Venezuela,Cuba etc.. (Chavez or a sucessor, Cuba under new leader Raul Castro, who doesnt much appreciate us meddling in his affairs). Will blindside us, in fact as we speak there is a plan to bumrush us through Mexico with South American forces and Islamic troops (this is true. )

Mexico's army is a joke, Canada may help, but will have its own trouble fending off enemy troops landing on its coast, and remember we may control the sea, but the quickest way to the US from the middle east is a direct line through Canada. For reference see any globe.

Then basically survival of the fittest will take hold, with anything west of the Mississippi in a constant fight... a Post-Apocalyptic America and for that matter the world.

So thats about it... You know the nuclear clock that the scientists keep moving so ever close to midnight? For once those scientists are right.

Forgive me for not directly addressing any of the distasteful scenarios above...I simply don't always embrace inevitability. Here's to hoping and praying they do not unfold at all.

Military power should always be a last resort...and U.S. Economic and Diplomatic instruments are some of the strongest in the world.

Should we be called upon to engage...let's all hope we do so decisively with sufficient resources and allies to accomplish our mission with minimal death and destruction. Adequate funding, proper equipment and training all increase readiness and chances of a favorable outcome. Nobody ever wins.

One inevitability I do know to exist: all war kills and destroys. That's why military might is an instrument to be wielded carefully and only after all other options are exhausted (as an invasive surgery or amputation).

I don't think anyone would argue that war with Iran would be a difficult and dangerous proposition for any countries involved.

Again--sorry for not engaging your question directly...but those are my thoughts.

It won't happen. Iran knows the US is weak, but doesn't want war. They would prefer to do the cold war thing of funding others to fight for them. Russia and the US never directly fought, yet the were at constant war for over 40 years.

I think the US wud attack 1st, but they also won't. They can't afford to. 3 wars (Iraq, Afghan and Iran) wud be too much. No-one can fight a war on 3 fronts.

Israel has enough problems. They have lebanon, Gaza and palestine. They also can't afford a 3 front war.

either war, if there was war, it would become dirty REALLY quickly. No-one would win. It would just become a toxic mess.

I pray that one of those scenarios does not launch another war.

If it is inevitable - I hope it is over quickly.

I don't have a bet on a date, the last straw or other parties who might get involved.

It's not that I'm not interested or concerned - I just pray that it does not happen. I will continue to pray for our military personnel.

First of all, where's the diplomacy? War it not inevitable when diplomacy is used to resolve issues. If you guys think war with Iran is wrong, then sign the petition below to prevent it. We, the people, have the power to stop this madness - it's up to us. Be an American, not an American't!

We wouldn't involve ourselves in a ground action, any military action against Iran would be like Clinton's Desert Fox operation against Iraq. We launch cruise missiles and bomb them, no boots hit the ground.
