There is no doubt that kittens are adorable. They are playful and fun. At a few months old most cats start to out grow this playful nature, some never do. If you get a kitten then you will be responsible for spaying or nuetering. If you get an older cat you may not have to worry about that, the shelters usually have it done before the cat leaves. I am a big believer in giving the older cats a chance. I went to the shelter last year to adopt a kitten and when I got there I saw 97 adult cats waiting for a home. There were about 30 kittens. I asked and some of the adult cats had been there for 5 months. It broke my heart. I ended up getting a two year old male, who is a big boy. He was not old so I did not have health concerns but he had been there for weeks waiting for a home and he looked so sad. He is the best animal I have ever owned. He is a little playful and so affecionate. He constantly comes to me for hugs and kisses. He acts more like a person than a cat sometimes. We went back to the same shelter in April to get another cat and ended up adopting a kitten. When we got there it was the same situation, there were over 100 adult cats and about 40 kittens. There was this tiny little runt kitten that was sick. My 5 and 7 year year old girls wanted to play with her while we waited and they explained that she was ill and they were at capacity so they were going to have to put her down. She was so small and she was born with no tail. My girls were devastated. I could not let them put her down, so we adopted her and paid for her treatments, it only cost $47.00 upfront, but the shelter had no space and a small budget. She is now well and she reaks havoac on us daily. She is a little wild and she is growing nicely. You can go to the shelter and see if a cat stands out to you, just give the older cats a try as well.

As far as what you need to know. If you adopt from a shelter you will have to fill out an application, they will check your references and make sure you qualify for adopting. If you rent your home you will need a letter from your landlord saying it is ok. You will need to have a cat carrier with you when you go because they will not let you bring the cat home without it. You will have to make sure you already have a litter box and litter at home. They will probably give you a little bag of the food that they feed there and you can use that for a day and then go to the store after and get some. Some shelters sell the food right there so you can get it before you get home. Good luck.

You can't go wrong with either. If you are considering adopting from a shelter, definitly go with a cat...they have the least chance of being adopted as for some reason most folks want cute kittens. Kittens are the greatest, but there's something to be said about an older cat that's already been thru the kitten stage already.

It depends on how long you plan to keep your cat. If you could care for them for a long time, you may want to get a kitten. Or, if you don't want to care for the cat a long time, you might want to get an adult cat. Check out your local animal shelter. They have a LOT of cats, both adult and kittens.

Id go with kitten. Cause if you get a cat they might alredy be influenced to be mean. But a kitten they have just entered the world and have little influence from the environment around them, on how their behavior should be and such.

So your family is going to accept this? Doesn't matter, they are fairly mature as kittens. Cat's are sometimes a little more reserved. Go to your local animal shelter. There are lots of homeless ones and 1 will surely steal your heart
