Dreams are part of the human way of sorting out information. Dreams could be a way for the human brain to sort out information which it can't during the day time. It also could be a form for a person to express his deepest desires and wishes or even darkest fears. Other way dreams are an exceptionally interesting to study.

Dreams are thoughts, at night your brain does not sleep (part of it) this part that is awake “thinks” or “imagines” things, these things could be things that happened to you, or things you want, or just simple imagination. These imaginations are stored in your memory which you recall when you wake up.
So in short dreams are like thoughts, and they have no connection what so ever with the real world (in terms of the future).

dreams are actually wonderful stories bound together like a book in the brain.:) the contents of the book of dreams come form different sources.. like your experiences on that day, your past experiences, your childhood experiences. dreams are outlets of our day to day experiences that's why you get to dream what you ate for lunch that very day. since tha brain works even at sleep, the outlet of that workload would be our dreams. our dreams memories processed by our brain at sleep. these are considered or can be considered memorable. also, your dreams are interpretations of what you feel emotionally. for example, you feel sad about the loss of your pet that day, in your dream, you might dream that your pet is running away from you and you can't catch up and then you found yourself tumbling down and wounded. that's a dream. it's very metaphorical yet real.:) dreams are our outlets of our imaginations, aspirations, emotions, and experiences.:)

My doctor has a theory that dreams are nothing more than bowel movements. He claims that it is just like eating. The thoughts go in and the garbage comes out.
Honestly, I don't believe my doctor. I think the emotions in your dreams tell you a lot about your mental state.
