I''ve never come across a dimmer switch with a minimum rating of less than 60 watts, but then I've never seen a 10 watt GU10 either!! Are you sure its not a G4?? Why would you want to dim a 10 watt lamp?? If it is a GU10, why not replace it with a 50 watt and dim that instead!

A good quality electronic dimmer switch does not produce any sound at all. It has been noticed that life of the electronic dimmer switch is increased multifold if the dimmer switch is of heavier wattage than that of the instrument with which it is being connected in series. For example it is always preferable to use a 250 Watt dimmer switch with a 75 watt ordinary electric ceiling fan. Therefore you may check quality of the dimmer switch or alternatively the piece may have a manufacturing defect.
