the other day i got a haircut and i went into school. One of the girls in my class said that she thought my haircut made me look handsome. Is she hitting on me or being polite?

she does talk to me often and seems interested in what I'm like and stuff.
If i made a compliment on her do u reckon she'l make the 1st move?

Well you need to study her body language very carefully. I'll give you an example. But you should never jump in the deep end in by saying "wanna go for a drink".?A definite' no, no' you could get blown out and made a total fool.
Right back to the example, first assess if she always looks at you, turns around, stares at you. Maybe smiles. Also, when she is in conversation with you, does she touch her hair, gaze into you eyes get nervous, etc?. Play close attention to see how she interactives with other people. It is totally different?
Another thing, try flirting with her.

It would be nice to compliment her but that doesn't mean she will make the first move. If you really want to know whether she likes you try asking her out. Girls like guys to make the first move even in a modern society

If she kept going on & on about it, she might have been flirting a bit. But it sounds like she was just paying you a compliment. She doesn't necessarily have to like in "that way" to tell you you look nice.

she was just being nice girls always do that to me but if she keeps telling you stuff like that and talks to you then maybe she is hitting on you but you are going to have to do something if you like her
