My son bought a used car with safety cert. believing it to be legal and was put off the road by police and made to get it towed home. Need to know where he stands in this and where to go for advice. My son is not very financial after buying car and does need added expense, especially as he thought it was roadworthy and had nothing to worry about.

You have the right to get your money back from the guy who sold it, unless your son signed an agreement which states that the car is sold as is, in which case, chalk it it to experience.

Ok, if a police officer can see it is unsafe, anyone should have seen it. Police are not mechanics so if this violation was that obvoious you and your son should see it.

It appears who ever sold you the car cheated you. But then why was this problem not seen when you looked at the car?

He can sue the people he bought it from for somethine like "false advertising." Does your state have a law about returning a vehicle after so many days and getting a full refund?
