Cruel and Unusual Punishment is when someone is beating another with a metal pipe. The metal pipe has lasting and sometimes permanent effects on the person being struck. When the police show up and tase the person with the pipe, the affects of the taser only last 5 seconds, and then it's done. As soon as the 5 seconds are over, the offender is back on his feet and capable of continuing what he was doing, changing tactics and going for the officer, or doing as the officer says and lay on the ground and place his hands behind his back. At this point the ball is in the bad guys hand. If he does anything other that what the police officer tells him, he will get shocked again for another 5 seconds again with no lasting effect and left again with the decision to do as the officer says or to take another 50000 jolt.
As an officer, I have been tased for the full 5 seconds in order to be able to carry and deploy the taser according to my departmental guide lines. I speak from experience that the taser hurts, but after the 5 seconds was up, there were no lasting effects. Unlike pepper mace that last for hours affter it's use. If the taser was so dangerous, why would police departments around the world have their officers tased for training and risk their officers lives? They don't have us shot with our service weapons do they? No, because that is a use of deadly force with a high probability of death or serious permanent injury.
Out of all the tools of an Officers trade, I would chose the taser as the best and most humane choice to subdue an offender. The firearm can kill and should kill the offender. Pepper Mace has a large amount of the people it is inaffective on, has a lasting burn even after it's use, and the offender can still put up a fight. The Asp baton can also kill. How many people do you know that will stand still and let you strike them? No they are gonna duck and dodge and try to get out of the way. Have you ever tried to stop a swinging bat once you started? So I may have started my swing for a meaty section of the offenders body, but now that he's ducking and dodging all I hit is bone or skull. Now thats gonna leave a mark.
Lets face it. Everything in this world is capable of killing someone, but it is the probability of it killing that counts. The taser has a very low probability, has no lasting effects, and I have only seen it not work on one person. That persons was on crack cocaine, meth, and mentaly ill. I shocked him over, well lets face it, I lost count after 10 times. He did not have burn makrs or any injuries from the taser. The taser still helped with the arrest though. Every time I tased him, he stopped fighting the other officers trying to handcuff him to look at me and tell me to "Stop It!!" I remember it well, because it was a scary scene. Eventually I distraceted him enough, my fellow officers were able to get him cuffed.
Let me ask you a question. What would you prefer the police to use? Or are you one that thinks this world does not need the police?
One last point. It is never my decision to use force against the offender. It is his choice. I am just a reaction to his actions and nothing more. I stated before that I chose the taser over the other options available to me. That does not mean I use the taser everytime. I use the level of force needed to end the situation. The offender makes the decision to use and what level of force to use.
I have seen you post other anti taser questions in here before, but I did not bother to answer, but if your going to keep reposting the same type of questions in hopes to get the people to think the taser is bad, then I will keep answering them to let people know the truth.
Here is your other taser question for the others to see.............................Out of Control Police Taser ?
The Man was so drunk that he could not respond to the Police request so he was Tasered so many times and still refused. All of the Tazed shots were captured on video and used as evidence. His law suit against the Police Officers wins and the jury has awarded damages totaling over $1.2 Million. Are the Police Taser happy???

Its not a toy but can save lives and medical expenses. If they have an unruly person armed with a weapon they want to take into custody they can try to arrest him by force and a strugle would insue and the police may get injured or the suspect. They could just shoot him in which case a great deal of medical treatment would be needed. Or they could use a taser to temporarily cripple him and then take him into custody with less risk to themselves and after a short period the suspect will overcome the effects of the tader with no medical tratment needed.
The effects of using a taser over guns or physical force are many and it is certsainly safer in certain situations for all involved.

If you are trying to arrest someone who doesn't want to go with you, you must use whatever force is reasonable to effect the arrest. I'm sure that you understand that we can't just say "you don't want to come along? Well okay, you can go..." Sometimes we have to arrest people, letting them go is not an option. Before tasers you would have to use physical blows, pepper spray (which doesn't always work) and batons to arrest a violent person who is failing to comply. This results in injuries to the arrestee and the arresters sometimes.
There are no long lasting ill effects from the taser (anyone who has allegedly died from taser use, probably died from excited delirium, almost always accompanied by drug use).
Arresting someone who doesn't want to go IS violent, there is no way around that. Officer safety is the most important thing, and anything that keeps us safer and keeps us from getting hurt in a fight is good. Whatever keeps the arrestee from getting long lasting injuries is good.
In the long run it hurts more to get punched repeatedly than tased.
I highly doubt that anything I've said will change your mind though.

I'm being "real here" .... I'd much rather be tased than hit with a nightstick ... luckily informed and educated people are well aware that the entire taser "controversy" is phony,left-wing propaganda with no basis in truth. The Taser causes no injuries, has no lasting effects, causes pain for only seconds, and most importantly greatly reduces risk of injuries to police from not only quicker compliance but minimizing necessary use of hand to hand combat.

I think that all Police Departments should be armed with
new technology, in this case the taser....There is a lot
of research to show that the better armed you are with
technology in a given situation, the less at risk the Police
Officers themselves will be..................................................
NOW THE thing is that in most cases when affecting an
arrest in the case of an unruly perp, either armed or unarmed
this could be a good thing to have to deal with such a person....
If you commit a crime, you cannot go out and talk about what
a Police Department should and should not have, in a crowd
control situation that gets out of hand, you need the latest
state of the art weaponary..............................................................
As is the case, for house and building entry, this is also the
case everyone carries on about robotics, but in the case of
a home penetration, there needs to definitely be a vehicle
that can smash out the side of a house or building like they have
in the US.....................................................................................................
The better equipped a Police Force, the better to deal with
any situation that arises, anywhere.................................................
The nays!!!do not have it, the taser is a good technology, and
needs to stay in play........................................................................

The Taser and Stun Guns have been in use by over 6,000 Law Enforcement Departments since 1985.
I wouldn't call it a new play toy.
The technology has been proven safe and effective over and over.
The technology has been proven to reduce both officer and criminal injuries.
Not once has it ever been proven in a court that a taser or stun gun has caused death. not once.
Tasers are powered by common 9 volt batteries, do you really think a common 9 volt battery can kill someone?

a honest volume of Bush supporters does no longer suggestions a fascist police state if the police were on their aspect. they have were given no difficulty for the rights of the accused pondering they are so boastful that they are going to honestly no longer be falsely accused. Others are keen to commerce some freedom for protection, naively wondering that it will likely be undemanding to fix freedom at some destiny time, or that the erosion of freedom will end maximum ideal now and not at all bypass added. Bush does no longer want to "get" those persons to help him. For the most area they experience he's a hero. As for the debt, it is the most important weapon for authorities haters to shrink the federal authorities. decrease taxes and run up debt and then it is a lot less confusing to remove authorities purposes pondering "we can not cope with to pay for that".

It is the safest tool to use to protect people.
They use it instead of beating them with ASP or shooting them with guns. The police officers have to be shocked with the taser before they can even use it,
More police need this to save the lives of more people.

Yes it is an abusive instrument toward many innocent people. They have had a kid in a library, tasered over and over again, pregnant women, many other young kids, fetal deaths, etc...
It is being abused for certain. It is also a constitutional violation for cruel and unusual punishment.
You can look up the damages of the taser weapon on the internet, it is really scary.

When you break the law you best be prepared to pay the piper.
I am all for this "toy". In most cases it is safe, but true it may have fatal conciquinces if person it is used on has certain health problems.
Is it not cruel to the victims if the perpetrator has a chance to harm them? If someone breaks in my home with a gun threatening my family and I get the inititive to take them down with my protection devise. Who is to say I commited a cruel and unusual punishment to the criminal?
Screw them, they made the choice and lost if they get zapped!
