Being good in math requires not only studying but practicing as well. Here's my advice to another similar question:" Practice solving as many problems as you can from the chapters that'll be covered by the next math exam. Compare your solutions with ones given in the book to determine your weaknesses and remedy your shortcomings. " Practice and practice until solving problems necome almost second nature to you so you won't freeze during exams.

Its been my experience that beating yourself up doesn't solve anything. Your not stupid. Maybe the teachers teaching style and your learning style do not match up. Most of the time when people fail a subject that they are honestly trying at its not because their dumb, its because the teacher just doesn't teach the way you learn. Everyone has the same brain pretty much, its just the way we absorb information is different. Figure out what your learning style is. Are you a visual learner? A audio learner? A kinetic learner? Then, get yourself a tutor that matches that style-- many public libraries have them free. Perhaps you have test anxiety. Try to calm yourself down, take deep breaths during the exam and close your eyes for a few seconds. Think positive. Banish all negative thoughts from your brain. Its "I will pass the test" =), not "oh no I don't know if I can pass" 0.o Or perhaps you have an undiagnosed problem like ADHD or Dyslexia. Probably not. They normally catch something like that quite young. Do you have a hard time seeing the board? Do you get enough sleep each night? Do you have allergies? It could be a medical problem. Are you stressed at home? Depressed? It could also be a mental problem, Don't take grades so seriously. Yes they are important but, not THAT important. Remember grades only measure what you did during a certain period of time based on how your teacher grades. It does not measure how smart or capable you are. I failed algebra in high school but passed with A+++'s in College. (And in college they cover the same amount of meterial HS covers in 40 weeks in just 10 weeks!!!) I was trying hard both times. My brain just matured over time. A lot of people are like that, especially with mathematics since it uses the logic part of your brain so much. (which is still developing during adolescence). Don't beat yourself up over it. PS when your studying take a break every hour and walk around for ten minutes-- maybe grab a snack. It actually helps you absorb more info than if you didn't!

I guess when you see your exam paper, you start getting nervous. And, that's the thing which happens mostly. When some one gets nervous, they just forget everything.

But if that hadn't happened, maybe it's the concentration you provide to it.You may emphasize much towards other subjects.

But if that hadn't happened too, your practice on maths wasn't enough.

Don't just study, practice solving problems. If you practice enough, then the problem-solving part would just come naturally to you on tests.

You have to want to learn about it yourself. Don't learn it for your parents, teachers or school councilors.
