In theory one single virus is enough to become infected. However hospitals, research labs and other such places have stocks of medicines to take immediately. If treatment begins within a couple of hours, the risk of infection is below 0.1%.

Tests are done, 6 weeks and 12 weeks.
The actual tests themselves (qRT-PCR) only take a couple of hours.

Yes...if you know for sure the needle is HIV + you should get PeP treatment immediately.

You test 6 weeks after exposure and know if you have it or not.
