Yes just get a plane cup of tap water. Recite the lords prayer over it say 20 hail Marys and bless the water to be holy and zap you have a cup of holy water. You can do the same thing to an entire lake. Everyone swimming in it will be blessed.

No you cannot,Blessed water is a sacramental of the Catholic church that must be blessed by a Bishop but more usually by a Priest, a sacramental means that it carries the blessing of the church and imparts it to whatever is blessed by it in turn.
The idea of holy water having validity comes from the store of the churches treasure of grace, bestowed on it by Christ Himself when He gave Peter the Keys of the Kingdom of Heaven.
Both Mahal and Betty Boop are wrong and I suggest that they at least read the cathechism of the Catholic church before commenting on things they know little or nothing about, as a little knowledge can be dangerous indeed.

There is one alternative method for making holy water, but it's not quite the same as water that's been blessed by a Catholic priest or bishop.
You take a quantity of ordinary water, put it in a pot, add a pinch of salt, put it on a stove, and then you boil the hell out of it.

Holy water is water which has been blessed. To confer a blessing requires the investment of spiritual authority--one must ordained as a priest.

I would believe that anything holy is blessed by someone who is truly holy in Gods sight

There's no such thing. Catholic holy water isn't really "holy", it's just water.
Catholics derive this symbol likely from Jewish mikveh laws.
