If Adam and Eve didn't eat the forbidden fruit, their children and descendants would probably have. The more people in the garden, the greater the chance that someone else would have succumbed to the temptation.

Is mankind destined to sin? Or did God only intend that Adam and Eve be the only human beings? Or is the Eden story seriously flawed?

If Adam and Even didn't sin and had children, their children would have equal chance of succumbing to sin. The more people in Eden, the higher the chances that somebody would eventually sin.

Morganie: I like your answer. However, if you say that this is the purpose of our human existence - to make mistakes and realize it and love God, then doesn't it imply that God created us to be imperfect? If you agree that some children of Adam and Eve would have eventually sinned, then mankind's destiny is not along the path of perfection. If God made us this way, can we wholly blame ourselves for all the evil in the world?

If Adam and Eve never sinned, they could still have reproduced. Contrary to what you might think, sex is not a sin - God said to them to be fruitful and multiply - and that was before the fall :)

The idea that sex was the "apple" that Adam and Eve ate is a fabrication... like horns and a pitchfork on the devil. It is not in the bible at all.

There is a book you might like by C.S. Lewis called Perelandra - it is about what if God created a second Adam and a second Eve on Venus - but what if they never succumbed to the devil's temptation - what might that world be like? What might their lives have been like? It is a very interesting read.

But you know, when Jesus returns, our lives will be like God intended them to be in the garden: perfect - without sin, open, free, joyous - we will walk with God in the cool of the day, he will dwell with us and we will be able to talk to him face to face.

How I long for those days!!
-----------------------------------------
Nevertheless, I agree with you that someone would have eventually sinned... I believe that's the point of our lives here on earth... to see how much life sucks when we go astray and sin and live lives apart from God's direction.

God wants us to really know how much deception and selfishness and lust and pride and anger can hurt - he wants us to understand that his ways are truly for our best. At least that's what I believe. Not that God caused this pain, but that he allowed us to make a free choice to experience it so that we would then freely choose to allow him to rescue us (which is exactly what he does in Jesus Christ!)

God created Adam and then Eve to bring control over all animal kind. Unfortunately, Lucifer took the shape of a serpent and offered a juicy fruit to Eve. Now this, is where the problem started, and Adam loving Eve, also took of the fruit. If you had two Pedigree dogs in your yard, and one took-up with a mixed breed, what do you call that litter? I believe God is one slick person, physical or otherwise. God Bless !!

I seriously doubt that anyone after Adam or Eve, would have 'wanted' to sin.

Yahweh (God) meant for all people to live eternally in His presence. And He did tell them to 'be fruitful and multiply'.

The only way that the story can become flawed, is when people misguide others in their understanding of anything; that is written in the Torah or the Bible.

As descendants of Adam and Eve we are born with sin. But thank God for the Blood of Jesus which cleanses us from all sin. Thank-You Jesus.

OK I love fantasy land so here we go. There is no indication whatsoever that had they not eaten of the forbidden fruit they would procreate. I read all this stuff about given a choice and we blew it. What choice. He created us with faults??? why??? some kind of lab rat that has to be tested?? We are an imperfect creation that needs to have a test drive to wrinkle out the bugs??? . He gave us curiosity and imagination and he is now pissed off about it and we have to pay for his ineptitude. Somebody please explain this sky fairy to me.

God when mankind was created gave them the best gift and most dangerous to Himself He could have, He gave it but it was NEVER His intent on them keeping it, that is the gift of choice. If mankind had passed the test given God would have made satan leave but when they choose satan his nature became theres because its like pulling the plug on life the natural results is death for the wadges of sin, that is the natural effect is death but the second member of the Godhead the ones adam and eve were talking to Jesus Christ was the very one that died in there place and IF we ask He will give you God's nature but its not God's choice He gave that TO YOU, learn more free on line bible lessons www.itiswritten.com bible questions www.bibleinfo.com talk to me also wgr88@yahoo.com God bless

Paul writes at Romans 5:12 that it replaced into Adam who sinned first; he then is going directly to describe that via one guy, the "2nd Adam," sin replaced into removed from humankind. And specific, you're superb that Adam replaced into status next to Eve whilst she ate the apple.

@. If you consider yourself fallen then there is little scope to not to Sin.
#. If you think you don't belong here then there is every reason to sin.
>. If you believe you have inherited this world from your children only to take care then whatever you do you will not Sin.

Flawed and for the reasons you've mentioned can't be taken literally, though people do. Probably shouldn't be taken metaphorically either. But what do I know? I have no soul.
