We have no property or dependents. Nothing of value left to sell or claim. She works as a deli clerk full time. My only income in 2006 was part time pizza delivery until 2/4/06 & $1100. in unemployment. Her W2 shows $17,005. wages. We usually file short-form Joint. Anyone have any advice for us - please?

Its never a good idea to file separately if you are married. Filing jointly gives you more deductions. You might even qualify for Earned Income Credit with the low wages. Don't forget to take the Phone Tax Credit which for a married couple is $40 dollars.

Work in an accountant's office.

You generally will do much better by filing a joint return. Your disability status has no impact on your filing status.

It's easy enough to prepare your returns both ways -- separate and joint -- and then file which ever way works out best for you.

Filing separately would not be likely to be to your advantage, and would probably cost you more in taxes than filing a joint return would.
