When a person sneezes all of their bodily functions temporarily stop working. A person becomes unconscious, their heart stops and technically, for a split second, a person becomes dead. Scientist have hooked up people and found this to be true. In olden times though folks were dealing the black plague. This is where sneezing became a bad omen. Sickness and the devil are running rampant and having you sneezing all over the place is just plain bad for business. That's why people came to say "God bless you" right after someone sneezed. It's some kind of superstition to insure that you won't spread the disease and that God is there for protection. Also so you won't loose you soul to the Devil. So sneezing twice is double bad because, in effect, you just died twice and the Devil had more of a chance to take your soul. Hey! God is busy. He doesn't have time to be looking out for you a second time. That, and you are now showing signs of being a carrier of the disease. If you sneeze more than that then you are really tempting the fates; a sure sign that you were sick and you need to be put to death. More likely you had something lodged in your pipes that had to be gotten rid of. But why take chances. It would be easier for these fearful folks to get rid of you instead.
On a side note, a person needs to take care of what position their body is in when they let loose. The force of the air leaving the body can sustain winds up to 200 MPH. Necessary to clear out any foreign obstructions. Pity the poor soul who has hay fever. It's why you need to cover your mouth too. It really does throw a lot of disgusting germs around. Anyway, this force is so powerful that people have been known to have their neck snap if they are caught off guard or are posed in a wrong position.

Sneezing doesn't come in pairs. It may be in triplets, quadraplets or more... But it has to be more than one. A single sneeze means that the irritating factor is still in your nasal area and hence is considered bad. It doesn't mean bad omen.
BTW, what's this question doing in this section of yahoo answers?

Yes it is, When you sneeze you are actually clearing out your lungs, like you stated in pairs (not pares) when you only sneeze once it is a definite sign of a collapsed lung.
