I have heard there are freeware windows replacements, but I haven't tried them yet. What is the best alternative to windows, and where can I find it to download?

Is it free? Will it detect my drivers? Does it crash less than windows?

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

UBUNTU is free, reliable and up to date. Also all of the programs are free too. Yes it detects your drivers.

My wife loves it.

Mandriva Linux 2007 is the best option... Am using it currently and it also identifies all the windows partitions...

But while installing it, do take proper steps so as to not destroy ur already stored data... Maybe u can call a professional or follow the instructions put up by the Operating System DVD when u put in... an it is free...

I'm a big Mac OS X fan. No, it's not free. Yes, it crashes less than windows.
