If so at what age is to old to run them, i have so far two beautiful female lemon beagles that just love to chase one is 5 years and the other is 11 months. I already notice the younger one takeing the lead is the five year old past her prime? is it time to retire her to the nice warm house or do you think she would rather be in the feild doing what she loves.
P.S all of my dogs are spoiled expecally the hounds there my babies
Thanks for any helpful comments.

aww man you dont want your beagles to run deer , you want them to jump rabbits... if your beagles are allowed to run deer...your in for some looooong afternoons..they sure as heck wont catch a deer and might trail one for miles. thats just a suggestion tho :)

Why retire a dog at 5 years young unless she is badly arthritic or displastic? Our own beagle has the best of both worlds...rabbit hunting and lays near the fireplace in the winter. You must not rabbit hunt or you wouldn't allow her to run deer, correct? I've heard this is a good way to ruin a rabbit dog. Deers are much too fun to chase! Just by observation I believe dogs in general live longer and are basically healthier when they are both indoor/outdoor dogs.

NOPE!!!
#1=It's illeagle here=any dog caught running deer, even if they really aren't,would be shot!
#2=beagles are too slow.
#3=I don't care for the breed at all.

I DO hunt/work my terriers on fur.
& 5 is NOT too old-just coming into it's PRIME !

It is cruel and illegal( here in MI) to use dogs to hunt deer. They will chase them right into the ground and they die from heart failure. Check with your DNR.

Your dogs are natural hunters and will hunt till the day they die. Believe me you will know when they want in and when they want to hunt.
