I hate trial too , so I found this Free photo editing program from google : http://downint.googlepages.com/photosoftware.html
it is a full version free program , not a trial , so you can keep it forever.
it is very powerful and easy to use.

Gimp is a great graphics program, but it might be more than you need. In that case, I'd suggest Picasa. It's free, and it does probably everything you'd want a photo program to do without getting into all the craziness of a full blown graphics app.
