I mean just like beef, how can you say it is from cow's meat if it came from a bull's meat.

It is both. We use the word "chicken" to refer to both the living animal and the food.

Both.

Most of the time in English, we make a distinction between the animal and its meat, if we commonly eat it. The name for the meat comes to us from French, the name of the animal is a native English word.

So: Cow meat is beef.
Pig meat is pork.
Sheep meat is mutton.
Not exactly sure why we don't make a distinction between chicken the animal and chicken the meat.

Like BlueOctagons and the rest say...
"Chicken" is both the name for the bird (fowl) and also the name of the edible flesh of that bird...

So, one could say in a sentence:
"I like to raise Cows and Chickens on my farm."
and
"For dinner tonight I will have Chicken served with rice."

It is both. Not to add to confusion, but a "chicken" is also someone who is too scared to do something. Ted was too chicken to ride the horse.
