Who started that finger flipping? How long ago and what the hell made them use the middle why not the index finger? Seriously, how did the middle finger start getting flipped in the first place???

My sentiments exactly, have been curious about this middle finger thingy since young. The first time I knew what it means by pointing a middle finger is when I watch a show a long long time ago.

It was a gab at the French army from the British. The French threatened to cut off the British Longbow archers' middle finger. Thus what do you think the British did when they still had thier fingers?

In some lands, it is the thumb inserted between the middle finger and the fourth finger. In other places, it is the whole fist, balled up with arm flexed.

I think Michael is right about the Brits started it with the longbows against the french...cos my dad told me that story a couple of years ago...a he's a history buff.

he is pantomiming his penis with this little flip of the middle finger.
it's the classic anthropomorphic display of the caveman. this symbolic rising of his pathetic little member is meant to portray the feminie (receiving-end) quality of his purpotrated target. basicly... it means "ur my bich and I am gonna **** you!"
