Sounds like the cat wants attention. Try removing the cat from the room, or at least from your bed, after checking the feed bowl. My cat tends to try to jump up near my laptop or climb up onto my lap using claws (ouch) when he is hungry. You might later want to check into having claws trimmed a little bit, sometimes cat sinks claws in deeper than intended when the claws are too long. If a cat is happy, he/she will often knead the paws on you. If clawing happens during this, usually that means the claws are too long and should be trimmed.

By no means slap her, she's just playing. A slap encourages the clawing. A spray bottle is a better solution. Also cats hate citrus. Take a lemon either rub it on your back or cut it up & put in a separte spray bottle & spray your back with it. All else fails put a thick shirt on until she grows out of it.

Keep saying oww, they just want attention, food or find a old string, wade up a little piece of paper and throw it across the room something that make noise. Mardi Gra beads are fun to put around closet door knobs they move and make noise.

Dont hit it!!! Just get off your laptop and go play with him!!! Get a string and run around the house dragging it on the floor. If your cat is playful like mine...........she will chase that string like crazy!!! Your cat just wants attention!!!

I suggest a spray bottle with chilly water - it won't hurt your cat, and it will let him/her know in no uncertain terms that digging claws into your back is NOT acceptable.
