I dont live in a particularly bad area, just the normal teenagers hanging around street corners and stuff but i worry every time my 16 year old lad goes out the door, these days it's so easy for them to be picked on just walking down the road. I've never allowed him to hang out in gangs and stay out late. It makes me laugh to hear SOME parent say they cant stop their children going out, Yes, you can, you are the ones responsible for your kids and need to take charge.

Everyone that has teenage kids worries nothing new there. Yes I would imagine that the threat of guns adds a new dimension to this but all you can do is hope that you have taught them right from wrong and that they don't mix with these lunatics or become one of them. I think that you are referring to the teenagers that are being shot and killed but equally the nightmare that it may be your son or daughter picking the gun up and using it must be as worrying. It has always been said that we follow the U.S.A in all things now we have their gun culture although thankfully not legalised as their's is. Something has to be done to target the youngsters who feel that carrying and using weapons of whatever sort makes them smarter/bigger/more macho but also to target the other kids that look up to people that are violent. I don't know the answer to these problems except to try and get back to the days when youngsters had a healthy fear of the consequence of their actions.

I have 2 teenage girls and one, three in a couple of years and find that I sound JUST LIKE MY MUM !!!!!
Im not too worried as we live in the north of england but that doesn't mean that things wont/dont happen up here either. Im not being spoken to today as she wanted to go to Blackpool for the day, and I wont let her go alone, she would have been with 1 mate that I know and says a few others would be there, which put me off even more, (a bunch of loud teenage girls let loose in blackpool alone!!) Shes staying right where I can see her today lol.

I worry about my kids growing into teenagers anyway - it's absolutely terrifying. There is so much out in the world that can harm them, all you can do is try your best to equip your kids with the life skills, morals and strength of character to make the right choices as young adults and stay out of danger.

Yeah every mothers nightmare, gangs are worrying.. My son got chased by 20 young lads he ran to a house and hammered on the door the man let my son in to phone me and the police, whilst the gang smashed his windows... My son had just left work. My son is 16 works part time and goes to college does no harm to others, the police did sod all they actually said by going to see the gang will only provoke them!! So much for our society!!! Bring back the electric chair!!!

I have teenagers, and yes, I do worry about it. I actually moved from a big city, to a smaller city with less crime. Unfortunately, less money also in the work field. Although, I know it happens in smaller communities too, it's not as prevalent. It's worth the struggle financially to me, to keep my kids in a safer environment.
