You are probably not an alchoholic, yet. However, when I was 17 (I am now 32) my behavior was very similar to yours in that I got drunk so I would be more outgoing and have fun. Just be really careful, because for a while there I was getting drunk a few times and week and doing very stupid things. Just watch yourself. I think that when you get older, you will feel more comfortable "being you" and you won't need the alcohol as much!
Good luck to you!!!

You are too young to be drinking alcohol in the first place; the way you are behaving you are on your way to alcoholism. You do not need alcohol to have fun. Start with small groups of friends that you feel comfortable and the liquor will not be needed. Probably you are a slow warm up person and there are others like you. You are not alone. So, stop drinking!

That is not a definition of an alcoholic but if you are not careful you could become one. You said yourself, you only open up after you have been drinking so you could end up relying on alcohol to be your ticket to fun and freedom. That is when you will get into trouble. No booze, no fun and no friends. Recipe for disaster.

There are two groups of alcoholics. One is common, every day alcoholic and another is when the person is drinking only to feel more comfortable within the other people.I think you are in this group,so it's not as bad as the first group, anyway you have to control yourself and try to feel good without drinking.

It doesn't sound like you are an alcoholic unless you can't get up in the morning or function normally without taking a drink. You are only 17 though...watch it!

being an alcoholic really has more to do with how much you are drinking and how often. If it's several drinks a day, everyday, and it interferes with your daily life, not just when it's party time. Go to this website to read more about alcoholism/alcoholics http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcoholic
