Yes, it could be anxiety. But before you go to the doctor and spend money on tests and the like, try doing yoga 3 or 4 times per week The deep breathing is really good for your brain and circulation, good for relaxation, and the stretching releases "feel good" endorphines.
Also, maybe you are at a point in your life where you thought you'd be a little more.........(fill in the blank). Is there something you always wanted to accomplish but haven't yet? Somewhere you always wanted to visit? Always wanted to learn how to paint? Never got your parent's blessing? Still searching for answers about God? (Please understand that I'm just speculating about common "unfinished business." Not making a diagnosis.)
Maybe you need to take stock of your life as it is right now and consider where you hoped it would be by now. And then, do something about it. If everything is where you want it, no regrets, no forgiveness needed, then consider making an appointment with your doc to see if there is some sort of hormonal or chemical imbalance that can be fixed with treatment. Could be as simple as lab values being a bit "off" (not enough sodium, etc...) and a simple diet change would help.
Whatever your choice, good luck. I hope you find the peace of mind you are looking for.

Try some deep breathing techniques! Just breath thru your nose slowly and deeply with an even rhythm. Focus on some happy thought that does not get you excited but is a pleasant memory!
Or chase all thought out of your mind and focus on the breathing!
It works for me!!
Happy ZZZZzzzz zz!!

Maybe you are just bored, and wait, I'm not saying your day isn't full and you lay on the couch eating bonbons watching soap operas. I'm saying maybe you need more challenging projects, the body can be tired while the brain is wide awake. Got time to get involved with some community activities, they are all looking for volunteers. Work that brain of yours just like all your other muscles.

Hi Kathey, I have this problem myself. I have been under a lot of stress and my mind will not shut down so i can sleep. I have rings under my eyes from not having enough sleep. Mind is from stress. I don't think your is anxiety. You would be short of breath. I think you are experiencing stress, and we have all at one times had stress. it's nothing to be asham about. Just try to relax and go with the follow. A Friend.

See a homeopath ... Sounds like you could do with a remedy I would personally give Coffea 30c once a day until you felt some change.
the other possibility is to get your thyroid and progesterone levels checked

It's probably anxiety, unless there is an issue with bipolar. Try keeping a journal to write out what's on your mind. It helps me calm myself to journal things when I am worried.
