I have a male friend who was asked by another male while he was working out at gym "Do you get paid to be a distraction?". My friend thought at first the guy was being insulting even though my friend never did anything to be obnoxious. I say the guy was hitting on him and he just didnt realize it. So now we are taking opinions. Any thoughts?

It could be either that, that the guy has homosexual tendencies or that he is annoyed or jealous of him, for calling the attention of women.
Probably this guy is checking out some girl, but he is also noticing the attention that girl have on your friend!!
Is hard to say, I guess I need to be there myself.
