I made a cake the night before a party. How do I keep the frosting fresh and from getting hard when I don't have a cake pan with cover? Would putting it in the fridge help?

Why not invest in a cheap but pretty cakeplate? I use mine for all kinds of stuff. And if you look, you can find a cakeplate that doubles as a punch bowl.

If you've made a sheet cake, you could cover if with foil...of course, don't let the foil touch the icing or you'll have a mess on your hands.

And my last suggestion would be to frost the cake a few moments before your party starts. It really shouldn't take that long and you'll know for sure, that your frosting is fresh and not hardened.

Putting it in the fridge WOULD help but be sure it is covered tightly with plastic wrap or foil as most refregeraters have dehumidifiers and will suck the moisture right out of it.

Keep frosting covered with a damp cloth at all times to keep it from drying out.

Good Luck.
Hope this works for you!
