The Old Testament contains the story of Creation and God's Chosen People. It also contains all the prophecies that Jesus needed to fulfill in order to prove He is the Son of God.

The New Testament is a collection of living principles and guidelines for the acceptance of Jesus Christ and how to be more like Him.

There is a scarlet thread that runs through every chapter of every page of every book in the Bible, and that thread is Jesus Christ.

Remember the word "testament" means covenant.

An Agreement.

The Old "Agreement" was that God forgive sins with a blood sacrifice of an innocent animal. The Jewish ritual which portrayed the future Lamb of God (Jesus the Christ) in the "New Agreement'

In the Old "Agreement", the sins were temporarily forgiven (like term insurance) which is why the Jews had annual renewal days to get their sins forgiven.

In the New "Agreement" God the Father gave us his Only Begotten Son, Jesus....as an innocent sacrifice, and shedding of His blood, as an eternal forgiveness for all who receive Him. A one-time event, which is memorialized by the symbolism of the last supper with the disciples in the upper room. The broken bread a symbol of His body, and the wine, a symbol of His shed blood.

The Old Testament is the story of why God had to have a plan of salvation (that was established before the world was), how He developed that plan, why and how He chose one man and all his descendants to be the "picture" and "vessel" of that plan. The New Testament is the story of the fulfillment of the plan of salvation (Jesus Son of God, Calvary, Resurrection), and the birth of the Church (Pentecost), how to live in the resulting "new creation" salvation and power, and the culmination of God's salvation plan for not just mankind, but all of creation with the resulting renovation and new beginnings (satan and death destroyed).

The Old Testament is actually the Jewish Bible: Torah, Prophets and Writings. The New Testament is the Christian Bible. They adopted the Jewish Bible because they interpreted passages in it as referring to Jesus the Christ.

The point of the Jewish Bible is that God rescued the Jewish people (aka Israelites) from slavery in a foreign country and settled them in the land of Israel, promising to care for them forever. When the kingdoms of Israel eventually fall, they come to understand that it was their unfaithfulness that broke the bond with God. God then rescues them from captivity again and re-establishes them in their land.

The point of the New Testament is that God became human in the person of Jesus Christ, redeming humanity from the debt of sin and showing them the way to heaven by his suffering, death and resurrection.

Oh, and the Jewish Bible is about five times the size of the New Testament.

The old testament is stricter on its believers than that of the new testament. The new one is more liberal on punisment of sinners while the old testament is like boom bang hell.
