You can try bag balm to toughen them up, if it is just from snow or frost..However, if it is from allergies or infection, the bag balm won't help..
bag balm is in a little green square tin, at your pharmacy or many pet supply shops..

Chetco is right. Is the dog around an outside area that has been salted due to snow/ice? Bag Balm is a great product. I have a dog that has the patience of a Saint and when her pads get a bit raw, she will let me soak each paw in a 50/50 solution of iodine and water for a few minutes each. I don't know if he will let you do it, but give it a try. You can also sponge squeeze it into his sore areas. Make sure you do this in an area that you can clean easily as the iodine will stain and nothing can really get it out. Dry feet thoroughly before letting him walk on any carpet. Good luck to you.

My dog has an Allergic reaction to flea bites. I didn't know this until I took him to an allergy specialist and spent way too much money. The first place he looked was between the foot pads and sure enough they were red and inflamed. I had not ever seen any fleas on him, but after we treated him for a staff infection between the pads and they cleared up he was good to go.

many dogs that do not get an opportunity to toughen up their paws will have this happen to them. Take your dog on regular walks on concrete.

I had a neighbor who rarely takes their dog outside, but decided one day to go on a long walk. She could not figure out why her dog's paws were bleeding afterwards.

You can buy him booties, but I really think he should see the vet for it. It could be so many things, that I can't even list them here.

If I knew what kind of dog this was (breed) and what he does during the day it would help.
