The word used in Genesis 3 that has been translated into English as "snake" or "serpent" may not be the correct translation.
Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent (nâchâsh) was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
The word nâchâsh stems from the root word meaning "shining whisperer or enchanter". Some theologians theorize that Satan who is described in this passage is what the word was meant to convey instead of a snake.
Ezekiel 28:13 You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering, sardius, topaz, and diamond, beryl, onyx, and jasper, sapphire, emerald, and carbuncle; and crafted in gold were your settings and your engravings. On the day that you were created they were prepared. 14 You were an anointed guardian cherub. I placed you; you were on the holy mountain of God; in the midst of the stones of fire you walked. 15 You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created, till unrighteousness was found in you.

You know, sometimes, it's not all about persuasive. Sometimes, they just like shoot the bull. Talk politics, talk about sports, the weather, stuff like that.
