I don't want to ruin the relationship that we have worked so hard to build but I care alot about him and he cares about me. But his job recently took him out of state and with us being so far away from one another he wants us to be just friends. I am just wondering if someone could help me. What should I do? What should I say? I don't want to put to much pressure on the relationship either. I just want to figure out how to be his friend for as long as it takes to help with the situation. I was wondering if someone could help me figure out a way to give him space long enough until the time is right.

Well, if this is really something that is meant to be then if/when the situation resolves it'll work out. But I think that if he really wanted to someday be more than just friends than he would've pursued a long-distance relationship (but not necessarily). If he really wanted to have a relationship beyond friends with you someday, he probably would've let you know...You can give him space by just being friends with him and not pressuring him by mentioning you want to be more than friends. He's the one who should pursue it if/when the time comes since he's the one who wants to be just friends for now.

Have you made clear that should he decide he wants to date that the door is open? If you have, then the best thing you can do is just be a good friend. You being a good friend is the space he needs. Keep in contact without being obsessive or mentioning that your interested in more again. If he's interested, it'll work out. If not, then the distance will allow you a chance to possibly meet someone else while keeping your friend.

If he is living far away from you, I am sure he has lots of space to himself. Respect his wishes and just be friends with him. At the same time you can still keep in touch through emails, phone calls, etc. Maybe you can just move to where he is working and see how things will go from there.

He has told you what he wants, so take him at his word and be a good friend. Who knows, it could get serious again.
