It differs in that multimedia quality can be degraded and output actually disabled for protected content, including shutting off your video output. This is compared to XP where the main restriction I'm aware of is getting licenses for protected songs in media player. It has triggered quite a backlash, including bad blog publicity, a campaign against Vista, and calling it Content, Restriction, Annulment, and Protection or CRAP.
