And in Heaven everyone drives BMW's on those gold streets, all the carpet is berber, there's a huge swimming pool filled with whatever your favorite drink is, and there no lines at the DMV.

The Bible was written by men. They needed a way to explain how beautiful Heaven could be. The streets these men traveled were usually trails that were dusty or muddy . There were some stone Roman roads. I realize you are merely poking fun at religion . I cannot help that you in your higher intelligence and enlightened thinking believe that over 1 hundred elements and millions of forms of life came when nothing blew up. And dead material eventually evolved into life. And man somehow evolved far more rapidly than the millions of other life forms. No other animal has evolved anywhere near the point of man. We can send vehicles into space. And only a couple of animals can even use a stick as a tool. I am just a stupid (136IQ) believer. God bless your enlightened soul.

The streets of gold represent how rich heaven is compared to this place. Where God lives everything is the best of the best imaginable. The gold we have here in the earth is just a shadow or pale copy of what it in heaven. It's not in the bible for the purpose of luring people. If you sole reason for getting to heaven if for the gold, you will not make it in anyway. Our God is a rich God.

Yeah. Sounds nice doesn't it... I guess we would want to walk, ride, drive--whatever, sometimes. Maybe it's just symbolism. Maybe showing that something as lowly and as dirty as a street is on earth will be as beautiful, clean, valuable as gold will be in heaven. Maybe it shows that something as valuable as gold will be the very thing we walk on, under our shoes, in heaven. That's how great, greater, Heaven will be when compared to earth.

The same reason why people need to wear wedding rings. They don't. It's just something nice to have. God created gold so maybe he thinks it looks nice.

After her mother died, 8 year old Addie (born in 1892, in Georgia USA) asked her grandma ...

>“‘Grandma, what are we gonna do in heaven?’ ‘Oh, we gonna walk on streets paved with gold! We gonna put on wings and fly from tree to tree!’ I thought to myself: ‘I’d rather be outdoors playing.’ I never wanted to go to heaven anyway, but I didn’t want to go to hell either. ‘Grandma, what are we gonna eat in heaven?’ She answered: ‘Oh, we gonna eat milk and honey! We’ll all enjoy ourselves.’ I cried out: ‘But I don’t like milk, and I don’t like honey! Grandma, I’m gonna starve to death! I’m gonna starve to death in heaven!’” <

That's^ about the same thing I was told (by the Protestant church my family attended) growing up. I had the same kind of response as Addie ... I never cared for gold anything. A street shining with gold would be a Huge Eyesore, as far as I was concerned. Plus, none of the rest of the description sounded either realistic, practical, or anything I'd want to spend forever doing, anyway.

>Evangelist Billy Graham says, “Heaven is a literal place, . . . what a glorious place it will be with streets of gold, the gates of pearl . . . and the tree bearing a different kind of fruit every month.” As for hell: “There will be weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth. I believe . . . there is literal fire in Hell, but if there is not literal fire in Hell, then the Bible is talking about something far worse when it speaks of the flames of Hell. Whatever it is going to be is so horrible that it cannot be expressed in the language of man.”<

>But many persons find themselves caught in between, so to speak, feeling unworthy of heaven and surely not deserving of hell. For these, Catholic doctrine provides a convenient niche: “It is a much more pleasant thought,” they opine, “that there are people not quite good enough for heaven, yet not bad enough for hell, and that these are sent to purgatory until they are purified sufficiently for heaven.”<

>Which do you prefer? Which thought stirs you most toward religious living? Heaven’s gain? Or hell’s pain? The threat of a fiery future is thought indispensable by many to the gaining and holding of converts, and statistics seem to give some support to this. For instance, Billy Graham’s “detailed picture of Heaven [given above] brought 145 listeners to their feet to pledge themselves to Christ. But 350 signed up on the night he described Hell.”<

So, yes, the churches' teachings of both heaven & hell do seem to have a compelling effect on at least some of its listeners! But, what is the actual truth about what heaven really is like, & what purpose there is in living there? This explains it from the Bible's viewpoint:

The Hereafter--Where Will It Be?:
- Earth Just a Testing Ground?
- Eternal Happiness---In Heaven or on Earth?
- - Rebels in Heaven
- - An Earth Swept Clean
- - Will the Earth Remain Peaceful?
