as what the other's were saying, crickets are nocturnal insects meaning, they are awake during night time. and they find night time as the best time to look for a partner. what they do is they rub their feet to create a sound. female crickets find that sound very inviting. a lot of people finds cricket's sound very nice. especially for those who lives in the barrios in the philippines

its a mating call,(only guy crickets do it)
crickets are also nocturnal.........
they make the sound by rubbing their leg against their wing, grasshoppers fly(for a second or two) but the cricket's wings are so delicate( like super thin tissue paper) the can't fly...
they're to heavy

It is their way of looking for love and attention. I love the sound, personally. God bless all crickets and escpecially those that I feed to my firebellied toads. I wish there was an alternative....
