With the fireplace in the corner, you can make a waterfall with using the opening by placing a water tank and pump, change the appearance of the wall to fit the scene you desire. you already have the ability by drilling one or several holes through the concrete between the bricks to run the plastic tubes to supply the water. Place plexiglass over the picture or painting. You can also place small or mini lights in areas to highlight your waterfall.
Do one better and place a small tank at the bottom with fish in it...if you like that sort of thing. Hope this helps...romantic, peaceful and conversation piece as well.
Enjoy, Steve

I was just going to metion the fireplace candelabra idea, but you could mix that with the idea someone had with the mirrors on the back of the fire box to add depth.
One thing to keep in mind about your fireplace is that sucker is pulling heat out of your house wether you use it or not. If you are not going to use it plug it up so you dont loose heat. I plugged mine with a chimney balloon.

I don't use my fireplace either!
Put several candles and attractive candle holders inside - it looks very pretty at night when all the candles are lit. Just make sure the flue is open if you have a lot of candles.

get mirror tiles and fill the back of the fire box with them then arrange candles in it and it makes a lovely accent. place a large artificial fern in it. fill it with vases of flowers, or jars of colored shells or marbles or any item like that, use it as a focal point for seasonal decorations. use mirrors and colored lights and glass vases of ornaments etc. put a fancy fire screen in front of it. display antiques on and in it. place your cd player in the hole, and speakers on the sides, then put an attractive screen over the hole that you can open to change your music. then put books on the mantle and build shelves on the sides to house books or collectables.

Buy a large potplant and sit it where the fire would be. An Aspidistra would be ideal.
