Yes, and I hope that they find out exactly what makes them toxic soon. I have seen a dog die from it, it was so sad because the owner used raisins as training treats because she didn't know that they were toxic.

The grapes are not as dangerous as the raisins because of all of the water in them. Dogs have to eat a lot more grapes than raisins to develop a toxicity.

There is a chemical in the skin of grapes that's toxic to dogs, and since raisins are just dried-up grapes, it's logical that raisins would be toxic too. It is known what the chemical is, but I can't remember the name right now. Also toxic to dogs: chocolate, onions, apple seeds (slices are fine but not the cores), and (this is a new one) Xylitol sweetener, found in sugar-free gums, candies, and baked goods.

Yes, I did. I learned it a few years ago on a site about urban legends. It's something people should really know about, since a lot of people (myself included) will sometimes allow their dog to have some human food. And since grapes and raisins are healthy for humans, who would think twice before giving it to their dog?
