I think you need to at least like yourself. You have to have a certain belief in your being loveable in order to really give and receive love. Otherwise you feel you aren't worth it, never believe the other person when they say it, and you drive them away.

I've actually been thinking a lot about this lately.
On the one hand, I know its possible to care for another person more than you care for yourself.
On the other, if you don't love yourself, I would ask why do you value the other person? Why would the thought of them leaving bother you? If its because you're afraid of how you'd feel, loving them is stemming from loving yourself. Based on that I would say its not possible to love someone else if you don't love yourself.

I don't believe you have to love yourself before you love others. I don't love myself, but I love my family, my boyfriend & my bestfriend (he's a male). Too many people keep trying to tell me you can't love others if you don't love yourself.I think that is just a a bunch of bull****. I like myself only but love those that are important to me.

yes for it to be a mutually happy relationship you need to be a whole person, not someone who is just looking for someone to breath life into them.
