I, for one, never expect a man to pay for me. I never go on a date unprepared to pay my share.
That being said, most of the guys I've dated absolutely *insist* on paying. I think of it's less of a female demand than a guy looking to impress, especially on a first date. As people get deeper in relationships, generally that need to impress fades and everyone goes dutch.
Or that could just be us poor college kids.

Simple:
Because, men are supposed to be the "bread winners" in the relationship. The whole reason for males and females to be together, is for the male to take care of the female. I dont know about you, but I'd feel really stupid if I asked a girl out on a date and expected her to pay. How secure would a girl feel then? YOU are supposed to be the one taking care of them
Sorry, but thats the way the world works my friend.

Try dating a WOMAN and you may have the equality that you feel you are missing. I pay my own way. I believe mutual spending should only come about once a person is married and even then always have a separate account for yourself. In this day and age it doesn't pay to trust anyone.

Not all girls do. I expect men to split the check whether they want to or not. You're dead-on right — my feminist foremothers worked hard for my equality, and I'm damn sure going to enjoy it.

As hard as it is to take, alot of women like the pre-era of liberation..in the matter of how men treat women.....equal but it doesn't give men a reason to not try...you have to try...it shows what kind of guy you are or potential husband...

because some women are just old-fashioned when it comes to stuff like dating etiquette (i.e. where the man is supposed to pay, hold the door open for her, etc), it's all part of chivalry. i personally like to go dutch on dates with my bf, but it makes him feel manly to pay for me i guess

I have no problem with it. You can ask her to share if you wish, I just would not do it.
Maybe you can tell her you would love to take her to a better place, but funds are tight and she if she offers.
