Christians say that atheists are blind to the word of God, and if they were to come to know God, then their eyes would be opened and the Bible would become clear. So how come Christians can't agree among themselves with what the Bible says? You can point out the same errors or contradictions to 20 different Christians and you will get many different explanations for them.

Ok, Barry.. here's an error for you.

Daniel 4:10-11 - Thus were the visions of mine head in my bed; I saw, and behold a tree in the midst of the earth, and the height thereof was great. The tree grew, and was strong, and the height thereof reached unto heaven, and the sight thereof to the end of all the earth.

Nebuchadnezzar has a dream, where a tree grows at the "center" of the earth. A spherical earth has no center on the surface. He also states that the tree grew so tall, that it reached into heaven and was able to be seen to the "ends of the earth".

Interesting, I didnt know the earth was flat!

Ask a dozen atheists why they disbelieve and you will probably get a dozen different answers--even many personal reasons.

Specific to your cited contradiction, I have a question: could this passage be symbolic?

Now I don't know Hebrew nor Aramaic, but I don't think it's fair to say the tree occurs in the literal middle of the earth--look at the word you're using--"gav". In Daniel 3:11 did they say to throw the fallen "into the MIDDLE of a fire"? In Daniel 7:15, does Daniel say he is grieved by the "spirit in the MIDDLE of my body"? No, the stipulation that it occurs in the middle is extraneous in the translated form of both of these two latter cases. Also, could the ends of the earth as mentioned refer to the edge of the "civilized world"?

Does any Christian know the answer for sure? No; we are all Bible students. Would you expect every student at university to answer a difficult question the same?

Now there may be contradictions. I myself struggle with many ostensible contradictions, but usually they are resolved. But the difference between the Christian and the atheist is that the Christian looks for explanations where the atheist looks for contradictions.

Now, not a single person alive today knows what happened 200 years ago, let alone 2000 or more. Everything we say about the past is extrapolated. When did the Lebanese Civil War end? 1990 or 1992? We can't even agree upon that which happened within our own lifetimes!

When was the earth formed? Ask 20 scientists and you will get many different answers. None of us really knows--but does that mean that the earth was never formed? Absolutely not!

Now I am first to admit there are many close-minded Christians. But there are also many close-minded atheists.

Christianity is the largest religion in the world with over a billion adherents. Surely any religion that large will have disagreements. In most cases, we just don't blow eachother up over them. Muslims have many different beliefs. Look at the civil war in the middle east between sunni and shia and kurds etc.

The basics of Christianity remain the same. Belief in Jesus as the Son of God and that we do not earn our way to heaven, we just accept his free gift of salvation because he died for us. Then we must love thy neighbor and try to live a good life. But it is only by faith and a love for Christ that we are saved from Hell.

Keep it simple and real.

I quote below the Scripture that concerns this issue:

1 Cor 4;3,4 But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.

There are so many things that one can learn from the Bible. The knowledge of some Christians are limited to what they are taught in their churches. Because they are not exposed to it many Christians may not be aware of this Scripture. Do not expect Christians to be experts of Scripture and know much about it. Those who know spend many hours in serious study of the word of God. When you speak to a Christian on an issue, some may not readily admit that they really do not know but provide you with something that they vaguely know. The majority of Christians who have so many things on their hands have not studied the word of God extensively. It should not be surprising that they are ignorant of things they have not come across in the Scripture. It is like you are an American. But it does not mean you know everything about USA. If a visitor should ask you something about your country you most likely give him what little you know rather that admit you do not know about your country.

Christians can say anything but what it comes down to is a person does good or bad regardless of how many gods or religions they stuff in their pockets . And that's a fact.
What's your moral IQ...? Nothing ever became anything but confused and twisted when i was religious and followed the book
so I am overjoyed I took my leap of disbelief and became atheistic. now my mind is functional once again.

I think the phenomenon is called, creating god in ones own image. People follow dogma they want to believe and then wonder why other people don't agree.

sweetie, each and everyone of them are right because the whole questiton of theology is subjective......it is all a matter of faith!

it is useless for anyone to even question faith....just let it go and let people believe or disbelieve what they want to. don't worry your pretty head about it all......it will drive you crazy.

there are many more important things in life to think and contemplate about such as what you are having for dinner tonight......lol

You know I think its easy most of the time after you study the life of Jesus then when you read the verse in question ask your self how would Jesus explain it.

It is because people try to figure things out for themselves instead of going directly to the Bible.

Because every Christian knows (think they know) that they're the ones who are right and that all Christians who disagree are not really Christians.
